Rebecca Darnell

Biography

 

Prior to attending law school, Rebecca worked in banking, at the Provincial Court of British Columbia as a Legal Assistant and then as a self-employed freelance Paralegal. Ms. Darnell articled with the Ministry of the Attorney General in Victoria, B.C., during which time she represented the Crown in civil, criminal and administrative proceedings throughout British Columbia. Rebecca also did a rotation at Legislative Council where she observed and assisted in drafting new and amended legislation.

On completing the articling term, she immediately opened her own firm in Langley. Drawing upon her extensive prior experience working as legal support staff, Rebecca practised initially as a sole practitioner primarily in family law proceedings. Her firm has now grown to have a broad practice focus including both solicitor and barrister work.

 

Outside the office, she is an extremely active member of the Langley community. She has been a passionate voice and advocate for many worthwhile organizations including Langley Community Services, Rotary Club of Langley, Canuck Place Children's Hospice, and Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation.

 

In her free time Rebecca loves to play golf, and drive fast cars (preferably exotic).

Biography

Christopher Green is a business lawyer with over 40 years of experience in private practice in the Province of British Columbia. A graduate of Queen’s University at Kingston, and Osgoode Hall Law School, Chris has a wide and varied professional experience, having acted as criminal defence counsel, crown counsel, counsel for the Insurance Corporation of BC, and as a barrister before every level of court in the Province.

After a failed attempt at full retirement in 2017, Chris accepted a position  in January 2018 as part time senior associate, and wise owl, at Darnell & Co, where much of his current practice is devoted to providing advice to small businesses.  He is a past member of the Canadian Bar Association, the BC Trial Lawyers Association and The Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

 

Chris is also a regular participant in continuing legal education programmes, and has lectured in business law to the Surrey Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Programme, the Entrepreneur Apprenticeship Programme and the Youth Entrepreneurship Programme.

He is a Past President of the Port Moody Foundation, and is a former Parks Commissioner for the City of Port Moody.

Emerald Chhina

Biography

 

Prior to attending Law School, Emerald obtained an Honours degree in Psychology from Chandigarh University, India’s top university in Punjab. Her knowledge of Psychology assists her to obtain a deeper understanding of her client’s problems. Emerald practiced as a litigation lawyer in Chandigarh, India before coming to Canada in 2006.

 

She obtained her Certificate of Accreditation from the National Committee on Accreditation, Federation of Law Societies of Canada in 2007. Emerald articled with Darnell & Company, and on completion of her articling term was invited to join the firm as an Associate. Emerald was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2008.

Shawan Das

Biography


Shawan was born in Jessore, Bangladesh and raised in Vancouver. Shawan completed her Bachelor of Arts with Honors from the University of Toronto in 2007. Following this, Shawan worked briefly at the University of British Columbia, and within the Human Resources Department of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. In 2008 Shawan pursued her childhood dream of becoming a lawyer, and in 2011, she obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of Victoria, Faculty of Law.

 

Shawan has been with Darnell & Company since 2011 and her primary areas of practice are Family Law and Civil Litigation.

 

Outside of the office, Shawan takes pleasure in spending as much time as possible with family and friends.

Biography

Francis was born and raised in the Fraser Valley.  Prior to completing her undergraduate degree, Francis worked as an Administrative Assistant with Abbotsford Crown Counsel.  Francis obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of the Fraser Valley.  She then attended law school at the University of Victoria and obtained a Juris Doctor degree.  After articling with Darnell & Company over one summer and then a full year post-law school, Francis was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2017.  She has joined Darnell & Company as an associate and practices in the areas of Family Law, Estate Law and Civil Litigation.

 

Francis is a self-admitted crazy cat lady and loves to play golf in her spare time.  She enjoys all things creative and artistic including dance, art, music, fashion and interior design.
